Metallica are releasing the next pre-release track from their new Hardwired ... to Self-Destruct record on Halloween — and they're teaming up with independent record stores for a promotion that'll put it in some fans' earbuds even earlier.

The third song to debut from the new album, "Atlas, Rise!," is set to make its debut on Oct. 31 at 3PM ET. Like "Hardwired" and "Moth Into Flame" before it, the track serves to whet listeners' appetites for the double-disc Hardwired LP, scheduled to arrive in stores Nov. 18 — and for fans who feel like paying a visit to their local record shop on Oct. 28, there's a chance to download "Atlas, Rise!" before everyone else.

According to a press release issued by the band, select independent record stores are giving away free Metallica Hardwired ... to Self-Destruct Halloween masks on Oct. 28. Inside each mask, the band has inserted an access code that unlocks "Atlas, Rise!" half an hour before the official release date. A complete list of participating stores is available through the official Metallica website.

An indie store outreach effort from Metallica's past will make it onto the bonus material included with the deluxe edition of Hardwired ... to Self-Destruct. As previously reported, the band's including a handful of recently recorded covers as well as the group's 2016 Record Store Day live set, recorded at Rasputin's in Berkeley, Calif., and a performance of the new album's title track from their appearance in Minneapolis earlier this year.
