Leonard Cohen’s 80th birthday will occur on Sept. 22, and he’s celebrating by releasing his 13th studio album.

The new set, reportedly titled ‘Popular Problems,’ arrives just under two years after his last effort, ‘Old Ideas’ — a blistering pace in the context of Cohen’s discography, which has twice found him taking close to a decade to painstakingly complete an album’s worth of songs.

Rolling Stone reports that the news was broken by Jarkko Arjatsalo, a devout Cohen fan who’s assumed responsibility for the singer’s official website. “Leonard has worked hard on his next studio album of entirely new songs,” Arjatsalo’s quoted as writing in the booklet for the recently held Leonard Cohen Event 2014. “He asked me to let you know that ‘Popular Problems’ will be out at the end of September, shortly after his 80th birthday.”

Although Cohen’s records have never been huge sellers in the U.S., ‘Old Ideas’ gave him his highest-ever Billboard ranking, peaking at No. 3, and he’s toured heavily in recent years, partly as a way of replenishing funds stolen by his longtime manager. His recent road jaunts helped Cohen work out material for the new record; as he told Rolling Stone in 2012, “I rehearsed some other songs on the road – new songs that didn’t make it onto ['Old Ideas']. So I have a new record [after this one], at least two-thirds of it, anyway.”
