Raisin Bran and rock & roll? Sure...why not! Just as we are witness to the bran flakes and raisins landing in the morning cereal bowl, we hear the classic guitar riff from Creedence Clearwater Revival's 'Up Around The Bend' in a new ad for Kellogg's Raisin Bran.

As a father sits down to his morning ritual, his daughter questions his sincerity in terms of choice of breakfast. As is the case with most ads these days, it is assumed that dad is not so bright and that that his wife obviously had something to do with his new interest in healthy eating. Dad dismisses the youngster's doubt and keeps shoveling those flakes from bowl to mouth.

What does this have to do with 'Up Around The Bend' or CCR? Well, we're not sure. If there is some fiber-covered path to happiness, perhaps it is in fact, just up around the bend. Either that, or the advertising team just thought the tune rocked, which, of course, it still does. Over 40 years after it first blasted out of the radio, that Fogerty riff still grabs attention. We would have given bonus points had they opted for the Hanoi Rocks cover version, but the original can't be beat.

Kelloggs and rock and roll go way back actually. In 1964, none other than the Rolling Stones recorded a jingle to promote Rice Krispies. That is really a more appealing approach, having an artist actually sing about the product instead of just using a tried and true favorite to sell the goods. You really haven't lived until you've heard Iron Butterfly croon for Ban Roll-On, or Cream jam on about Falstaff Beer.
