Billy Joel has been mixing up his Madison Square Garden residency with some surprises here and there. Last night, John Mellencamp and Sting joined him onstage, although not at the same time.

JamBase reports that Joel dug deep into his catalog for last night's performance, playing rarely performed songs like 'All for Leyna,' 'Vienna' and 'Summer Highland Falls.' He also brought out his friend Sting for a version of the jazzy 'Big Man on Mulberry Street' from 1986's 'The Bridge.'

You can see video of that song below.

Mellencamp also joined Joel onstage, but he performed one of his own songs, 'Crumblin' Down,' with the Piano Man and his band. You can watch video of that one above.

Joel has been performing monthly concerts at New York's Madison Square Garden to keep himself busy. He hasn't released an album since 1993's 'River of Dreams,' and apparently has no plans to follow it up.

But he still plays shows regularly, and these hometown appearances have included favorites from throughout his career (like 'Piano Man,' 'My Life' and 'She's Always a Woman') along with rarely heard songs from his lengthy repertoire.
