It's a battle of the heartland as the Kansas-born, Ohio-raised Joe Walsh faces off against Chicago's own Styx in the Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame semifinals.

Every month, our readers will decide which of eight legendary artists or bands will be honored for their contributions to the genre. Walsh -- who's already been nominated for his work in the James Gang, and certainly will be soon for his time in the Eagles -- is being judged solely on his solo career here, and that was enough to dispatch singer-songwriter Jackson Browne very easily in round one.

Meanwhile Styx, who evolved from their early-’70s progressive rock beginnings to become one of the most popular arena acts of the next two decades, defeated fellow rockers Foghat to earn their shot at the finals.

So, who gets deserves to move on more -- the author of 'Life's Been Good' and 'Rocky Mountain Way,' or the team behind 'Renegade' and 'Come Sail Away?' You can cast your ballot once a day between now and Jan. 26, 2014, at 11:59 PM EST. The winner will be announced on Feb. 3. Be sure to read our official rules, and good luck to both of our latest Ultimate Classic Rock Hall of Fame candidates!
