Joe Satriani is set to embark on a U.S. tour. On Friday (April 26), the guitar hero announced a series of dates, which are listed below.

Satriani will begin the tour Aug. 29 at the Balboa Theatre in San Diego. From there he will concentrate on California and the Southwest before hitting the Northeast by the end of September. More dates are expected to be added in the future.

The tour is in support of his new album, 'Unstoppable Momentum,' which will be out on May 7. The first single, 'A Door Into Summer,' was released earlier this month. Our review called it a "classic slice of what he does best," singling out " a lengthy shredding solo that employs an artful combination of speed chops, tone and unusual phrasing before settling into a cool twin-guitar harmony line that takes the song back to the main riff." The song's video, embedded below, premiered last week at Rolling Stone.

Satriani will have an experienced band backing him on this tour. In addition to keyboardist Mike Keneally (Frank Zappa, Steve Vai), Satch will get musical support from Bryan Beller on bass and Marco Minnemann on drums. Prog legend Steve Morse (Kansas, Dixie Dregs, Deep Purple) and his eponymous band will open up all dates except the final night in Oakland.
