Electric Light Orchestra will make their first-ever visit to one of the most historic venues in the U.S. later this year. Jeff Lynne has announced a trio of concerts for Sept. 9-11 at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles.

The dates follow the release of the first ELO studio album in more than a decade, last year’s Alone in the Universe. Lynne will appear with the Hollywood Bowl Orchestra, bolstering his band’s string-laden sound.

Lynne earlier set a British tour, to begin in April; ELO will also make a stop at the Glastonbury Festival in June. That’s in marked contrast to the period immediately following 2001’s Zoom, as Lynne continued a long-standing ban on touring. “As soon as I was able to stop, I said that’s it,” he told the Los Angeles Times.

But a celebrated appearance at London’s Hyde Park in 2014 changed Lynne’s mind about things. He finished Along in the Universe, and decided to take it out on the road. “Fifty thousand people all going mad and singing along with every song – that was pretty nice,” he noted.

ELO had been teasing possible dates on their website, hinting at long-awaited appearances that will break a three decade-long absence from touring in the U.S. Lynne also made a well-received appearance at last year’s Grammys with singer-songwriter Ed Sheeran. Alone in the Universe became Electric Light Orchestra’s first Top 5 U.K. album since 1983’s Secret Messages, and the band’s first Top 25 U.S. hit since 1981’s Time.
