Who’s Better, Iron Maiden or Metallica? Lars Ulrich Weighs In
As Metallica prepare for their headlining slot at the U.K.'s Sonisphere Festival in July, drummer Lars Ulrich has offered his thoughts on whether his band is better than another of the co-headlining bands, Iron Maiden.
In a recent interview with the Guardian, Ulrich seems to have little difficulty deferring "Best Band" status to Iron Maiden, despite Maiden vocalist Bruce Dickinson's attempts to stir up trouble by saying that they are a better band than Metallica.
"I will never argue with that," Ulrich says. "I will always support Bruce Dickinson in whatever nonsense he says. That's part of the fun. So go Iron Maiden! It's fine."
Although Metallica might not be indulging in quite as many extra-curricular activities as Dickinson at the upcoming Sonisphere show, the band is finding plenty of ways to keep fans on their toes. Earlier this week, for the first time ever, the group performed their song 'The Frayed Ends of Sanity' live at their Sonisphere Finland appearance.
Last week, Alex Turner of the Arctic Monkeys questioned whether or not Metallica -- or any metal band, for that matter -- would fit in at the Glastonbury Festival. Metallica are set to become the first metal act to headline the prestigious festival when they take the stage on June 28.
