Rock and roll is a male-dominated business with a male-dominated perspective on women. It's been a tough road for female rockers, and when Heart first came on the scene in the '70s, they actually had to sue their first record company for putting out promotional materials suggesting they were secretly lesbian lovers.

They suffered similarly in the '80s, when the advent of videos resulted in Nancy Wilson being forced into all manner of embarrassing scenarios by their record label. But they persevered, and in 2013 Heart were recognized for their career achievements when they were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
