Reuniting to reclaim their stake in the legacy they helped build during the band's formative years, founding Heart members Steve Fossen and Mike Derosier have started a new band they've called Heart by Heart.

As you can probably guess given the band name, Heart by Heart is dedicated to performing Heart classics, but as Fossen and Derosier tell Classic Rock Magazine, they don't think of it as a cover band; in fact, they argue their latest project is a "second incarnation," carrying forward the music they were part of until leaving the Heart lineup in 1982.

Heart by Heart are rounded out by guitarist Randy Hansen, keyboardist Bob Rivers, guitarist/singer Lizzy Daymont and vocalist Somar Macek, whose relationship with Fossen helped trigger the band's first steps forward. As the band's website puts it, "Romance stirred, and the two began playing Heart songs together; bass and vocals, side by side, heart by heart. Blatant talent coupled with an extensive inventory of songs made forming the new band an easy and exciting decision."

"With Mike and me at the helm, we can, once again, help bring out those musical nuances and ignite the energy within our own band that made Heart one of the most beloved rock groups of our time," Fossen told Classic Rock, adding that Daymont's addition to the lineup proved particularly emotional for him. "We were amazed at how well Lizzy knew the songs and one week later she joined us onstage. In fact, when I heard Somar and Lizzy harmonize for the first time I had to hide my face because I started to cry."
