It's 'God of Thunder' vs. 'Rocky Mountain Way' as Kiss and Joe Walsh meet up in round one of the Ultimate Classic Rock March Riff Madness competition.

We’ve selected 32 of classic rock’s most iconic riffs and paired them off in 16 first-round duels -- and after all the debates it took to arrive at this list, we're mostly not talking to each other. Regardless, over the next five weeks the field will be repeatedly cut in half by your votes, until we theoretically arrive at the most awesome riff in all of rock history.

We could have picked dozens of riffs from Kiss, but the one that wouldn't leave our brains was the Godzilla stomp of 'God of Thunder' from 1976's 'Destroyer' -- sung by Gene Simmons but written by guitarist Paul Stanley. To try and make things a little easier, we ruled out the Eagles and James Gang eras for Walsh, instead choosing this work of genius from his 1973 album 'The Smoker You Drink, the Player You Get.'

So will Walsh or Kiss move on? It's up to all of you. Everyone can vote once per hour until round one of our March Riff Madness voting closes on Sunday, March 9 at 11:59PM ET. The ultimate winner will be revealed on April 7.
