Queensryche Offers Prize to Fan Who Hates Their New Album the Most

Geoff Tate
Liz Ramanand

Simply hate the new album from Geoff Tate’s Queensryche? Interested in winning a bunch of Queensryche-related goodies anyway? Here’s your chance to blow off some stream, and you might just claim some cool prizes from Tate.

He’s offering fans a chance to submit YouTube rants about ‘Frequency Unknown,’ the troubled first release from Tate’s newly formed, identically named competing version of his former band. The winner gets an all-expense paid trip to see Queensryche perform in a hometown show at Seattle on June 29, including special VIP seating and meet-and-greet passes — plus a merchandise package worth $250 that Tate’s label Deadline Music/Cleopatra Records says, “you can feel free to either burn, or wear in style!”

‘Frequency Unknown,’ which was rushed out following Tate’s unceremonious departure from the original Queensryche, was met by a storm of complaints about sound quality. Deadline Music even contacted Billy Sherwood about remixing the album before its release, though the 1990s-era Yes alum was too busy to step in. The label is now offering a remastered version to unhappy fans.

Still hate it? This contest is for you. Real names are required. In fact, the label has stated that all submitted videos must begin with this phrase: “My name is (real first and last name per ID and/or passport) and this is my video submission for the Queensryche ‘best rant’ contest.” The videos must also link to the label’s website in order to be considered. Deadline Music warns that your rant must focus on ‘Frequency Unknown.’ No comments on earlier albums or personal attacks on Queensryche band members or their families will be tolerated. Deadline for submissions via YouTube is May 10.
