Foo Fighters fans have only a few days to wait before we all get to hear the first single from the band's new 'Sonic Highways' album.

The song in question, 'Something From Nothing,' is set to debut Oct. 16 -- the day before HBO unveils the first episode of the 'Sonic Highways' series, which follows the band across the U.S. while it visits a series of top recording studios and works with some of the best-known and beloved musicians from each city (including Willie Nelson, Dolly Parton, LL Cool J, Chuck D, Joan Jett, Bonnie Raitt and Slash).

The record won't get here until Nov. 10, but there's plenty of Foo fun between now and then, even for those of us who don't have HBO; aside from 'Something From Nothing,' we can look forward to the week-long residency the band has booked on 'The Late Show With David Letterman' this week, during which they'll play covers of songs inspired by the cities they visited during the making of 'Sonic Highways.'

Finally, there's the above five-minute extended trailer for the documentary, which offers our clearest look yet at the journey viewers will embark upon after the series debuts later this week.
