Watch Elton John Deliver a Surprise Performance of ‘Tiny Dancer’ at a London Train Station

Even after releasing more than 30 studio albums, Elton John keeps finding new ways to hit the promotional trail.

The Guardian reports that John surprised a train station full of London commuters yesterday, when he arrived unannounced at the city’s St. Pancras International depot and sat down at a piano to deliver a performance of his classic hit “Tiny Dancer.”

“A colleague and I were just walking through the station and there was a bit of a crowd, then everyone started clapping and cheering,” an onlooker told the paper. “Elton sat down and started playing ‘Tiny Dancer.’ He didn’t sing, played for about five minutes, then got up and walked away, all very low key.”

Aside from a nifty bit of pre-release promotion for John’s new Crazy Wonderful Night LP, which arrives in stores today, John’s appearance — which you can watch above — also left St. Pancras with a free piano. After performing, he inscribed the instrument with the message “Enjoy this piano. It’s a gift. Love, Elton John.”

John commemorated the visit on his Instagram feed later, posting a picture of the inscription and writing, “Surprise!! I popped into St Pancras International to christen the Yamaha piano which I donated to the station. Now everyone can have a play. … My gift is my song and this piano’s for you.”

Wonderful Crazy Night, which was preceded by the lead-off single “Looking Up,” marks a return to John’s impressively speedy ’70s studio form, with all the tracks recorded in one or two takes over a 17-day span. John recently wrapped a Las Vegas residency, and is scheduled to begin a brief run of tour dates in March.
