Yesterday (Aug. 31) Eddie Van Halen took some time out from his recuperation to issue an update on his health. Van Halen recently spent three weeks in the hospital after needing emergency surgery for diverticulitis.

The stay in the hospital took longer than usual due to a few stitches popping following the surgery. However, Van Halen is on track for recovery and posted the following message to his Facebook page:

Thank you for all of your cool comments! Hanging out, taking it easy and following the doctor's orders.

Diverticulitis is an inflammation and infection of pouches in the colon wall. It was also the condition suffered by Doug and Wendy Whiner, characters played by Joe Piscopo and Robin Duke on a recurring 'Saturday Night Live' sketch in the early-80s.

Recovery is expected to take between four and six months. His condition caused the postponement of Van Halen's dates in Japan, which had been scheduled for November. However, David Lee Roth decided to go to Japan anyway and sent along his best wishes to his bandmate over at Van Halen News Desk.
