Van Halen had already postponed some dates earlier in the year, but the momentum that the band had regenerated after releasing their 'A Different Kind of Truth' album came to a screeching halt when guitar great Eddie Van Halen was wheeled into emergency surgery in August.

The musician had a severe case of diverticulitis and underwent surgery to alleviate the pain. It was reported, albeit by the National Enquirer, that Van Halen blamed a Master Cleanse diet for setting off the intense reaction inside his intestines. The recovery process was estimated to be approximately six months, which shut down Van Halen for the remainder of the year.
