Earlier this month, we commemorated the 10th anniversary of the death of Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. Now, we get news of a previously unreleased song by the groundbreaking metal guitarist. Take a listen to ‘Whiskey Road’ below.

The song comes courtesy of Guitar World, who have devoted the February 2015 issue of the magazine to Dimebag. They note that the song was recorded in 2001 during Pantera’s tour in support of their last album, ‘Reinventing the Steel.’ Dimebag Darrell sang and played all the instruments on ‘Whiskey Road,’ which begins with an acoustic 12-string and some slide guitar and builds up to a hard-rocking conclusion. In true guitar mag fashion, the page where they feature this song also includes a tablature transcription.

The issue, which will be available this week, also includes a list of Pantera’s Top 25 songs, interviews with Scott Ian of Anthrax and producer Terry Date, a tour of his estate and his guitar collection and a photo gallery of Dimebag Darrell-related art and tattoos.

Abbott was shot and killed on Dec. 8, 2004 shortly after Damageplan, the band he formed with his former Pantera bandmate and brother, Vinnie Paul, took the stage at the Alrosa Villa club in Columbus, OH. The gunman, Nathan Gale, a former U.S. Marine with a reported history of mental illness, was killed on-site by James Niggemeyer, a police officer.
