Delta Deep, the blues side project of Def Leppard's Phil Collen, has just delivered an early holiday present in the form of an original Christmas song. Ultimate Classic Rock is proud to share the exclusive premiere of the lyric video for "Take Me Home for Christmas."

As you can hear in the clip above, which was directed by Ryan Sebastyan, "Take Me Home for Christmas" is light-years away from the arena rock for which Collen is famous. It takes advantage of the sultry vocals of Debbie Blackwell-Cook and recalls a very different time, something that Collen tells us was unintentional.

"Delta Deep has this great Christmas song reminiscent of the 1940's jazz era," he says. "We didn't plan it that way but that's just how the song came out. We love it because it's not like your traditional Christmas song. It's a track that can literally be played year round simply because it's mellow and full of that smoky blues sound that's a part of all of us."

At first, Collen was hesitant to record a Christmas song, even one that was penned by the group. But as it came together, he bought into it fully and added a little special something to give it a more authentic feel.

“I’ve never really been an advocate of Christmas songs due to the over-commercialized, seasonal onslaught that happens each year," he continues. "However, with this tune, we managed to evoke not only feelings of cheerful warmth and visions of cozy fireplaces. We loved creating something reminiscent of a 1940’s bluesy jazz style, easily to be enjoyed no matter what the season. I even used my 1954 Gibson ES-175 for that very classic sound.”

Collen and Blackwell-Cook began Delta Deep three years ago, informally jamming on blues and soul covers. Then they recruited Stone Temple Pilots bassist Robert DiLeo and drummer Forrest Robinson and released their self-titled debut this past June. Collen and Blackwell-Cook will perform two holiday shows in London on Dec. 20 and 21, and the whole band will play select dates in Cailfornia in early 2016. Their itinerary can be found below.

"Take Me Home for Christmas" will be released on Nov. 27 and is available for pre-order now at iTunes.
