Deep Purple’s ‘Machine Head’ Album Gets 40th Anniversary Reissue

With renewed interest in Deep Purple as the band makes plans for 2013, there’s something special that will precede their new album and future touring. EMI has announced that the band’s ‘Machine Head’ album will receive a 40th Anniversary reissue this fall.

The new five-disc special edition is currently only slated for an Oct. 8 street date in Europe. The first disc is a remastered version of the 1972 release. In 1997, Deep Purple bassist Roger Glover remixed the effort, and that makes up the second disc. The third disc is the original album remastered in Quad SQ stereo sound.

As for the other two discs, the fourth is a 1972 concert at the Paris Theatre in London that’s been given a new mix, while the fifth disc is a DVD that offers the album as a high resolution remaster with a surround mix.

In addition, the entire package comes with a 60-page hardback booklet. It features detailed essays from Roger Glover and Mojo magazine editor Phil Alexander, quotes from Deep Purple fans like Mikael Akerfeldt, Peter Hook, Eddie Jordan and others, and an interview with photographer Didi Zill, whose photos of the recording session in Switzerland are featured throughout the booklet.
