Early David Bowie Albums to Be Reissued on Vinyl

Six of David Bowie‘s early albums are getting the vinyl reissue treatment next month, along with the BBC live set Bowie at the Beeb.

The new reissues are coming courtesy of Parlophone, and span the years 1969-73 — the period that produced the albums Space Oddity, The Man Who Sold the World, Hunky Dory, The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars, Aladdin Sane and Pin Ups, all of which are arriving Feb. 26 on heavyweight 180g vinyl. Bowie at the Beeb, which collects Bowie’s live BBC performances from 1968-72, is arriving on vinyl the same day.

These titles represent stand-alone entries from Bowie’s Five Years 1969-1973 box, which arrived last year and amounted to a deluxe 12-CD/13-LP collection of his work during the era. That box, which also includes an essay-laden book and a double-disc rarities collection titled Re:Call 1, is still available, but for more budget-conscious fans — or those who simply don’t feel the need to own everything — the new reissues may be a safer bet. Each of the upcoming releases is available for pre-order now.

At the time, Five Years was billed as the first in a new series of Bowie boxes, and recent reports suggest the pipeline will continue to pump out archival product in the years to come. According to sources close to the Bowie camp, he’d lined up a series of releases prior to his death, and current plans reportedly call for the first installment to arrive sometime before the end of 2017.
