David Bowie’s New Single Described as ‘Jazz-Oriented’

David Bowie

One of the fun things about being a David Bowie fan is that you never know what you’re going to get from him (or when you’re going to get it, as proven by 2013’s surprise ‘The Next Day‘ LP) — a tradition that seems likely to continue with the previously unreleased material he’s tucking in with the classic cuts on his forthcoming ‘Nothing Has Changed‘ compilation.

The U.K.’s Telegraph reports that Bowie worked with “a leading jazz orchestra” for the set’s single, ‘Sue (Or in a Season of Crime),’ which is set to make its public debut on the BBC Radio 6 show Guy Garvey’s Finest Hour on Oct. 12. Details are scarce at this point, but given who he teamed up with for the recording, the Telegraph’s report understandably describes the recording as “jazz-oriented.”

The Telegraph’s report also notes that ‘Nothing Has Changed’ will come in a variety of packaging options, writing that “there will be different artwork for each format of the album with each image featuring 66-year-old Bowie looking into a mirror.”

The Bowie camp’s been typically quiet about whether ‘Nothing Has Changed’ signals another new album in the ever-inscrutable artist’s immediate future — recent rumors regarding a record around the corner were quickly debunked — but U.K. filmgoers can get their Thin White Duke fix this November with ‘David Bowie Is,’ a documentary about the Bowie retrospective recently hosted by London’s Victoria and Albert Museum.
