Last night (Jan. 22) in Hollywood, Calif., the Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund held a benefit in memory of the late Pantera guitarist “Dimebag” Darrell Abbott. The event, dubbed the Monster Energy Ride For Dime Dimebash 2016, featured Dave Grohl of Foo Fighters, Robert Trujillo of Metallica, Philip Anselmo and many others.

We’ve got video of three of the songs from the evening. You can watch the three of them cover Motorhead‘s “Ace of Spades,” with Dave Lombardo of Slayer above. Below are Pantera’s “Walk,” which includes Pantera’s Rex Brown on bass and Slayer’s Gary Holt on guitar, and a cover of Pink Floyd‘s “Wish You Were Here” with Grohl, Robb Flynn of Machine Head on vocals and guitar and Roy Mayorga of Stone Sour on drums.

As Flynn explains, Jerry Cantrell of Alice in Chains had been slated to play “Wish You Were Here” with them, but wound up in the emergency room last night for an unknown reason. Grohl filled in at the last second, and the song was dedicated to Cantrell.

Abbott was murdered on Dec. 8, 2004 shortly after his band Damageplan took the stage at the Alrosa Villa club in Columbus, Ohio. The gunman, a former U.S. Marine named Nathan Gale, killed three more people and wounded seven others. A police officer named James Niggemeyer killed Gale at the scene.

The Ronnie James Dio Stand Up and Shout Cancer Fund was established in the wake of Dio’s death in 2010 of stomach cancer. According to their website, the fund is “dedicated to support research and education that furthers early detection, prevention and treatment of prostate, colon and stomach cancers.”
