Now that Carlos Santana has gotten his old band back together, he's trying to reunite another group's classic lineup. The guitarist told Q104.3 that Journey -- which is led by his old Santana bandmate Neal Schon -- should start working with singer Steve Perry again.

“I dream of Neal and I going to Fresno and talking to Steve Perry,” Santana said. “If Santana can do Santana IV... There’s a chemistry between Neal and Steve Perry.” You can listen to the interview below.

Perry joined Journey in 1977, four years after Schon and fellow Santana bandmate Gregg Rolie formed the group. Journey released three mediocre-selling albums before Perry joined as singer on 1978's Infinity album. Within three years, they had a No. 1 LP with Escape.

For the next half decade, Journey were among music's most popular bands. They released five consecutive Top 10 albums, including 1996's Trial by Fire, Journey's first album after a decade-long break. Perry left the group the following year due to health issues, and the band replaced him with another singer in 1998.

Since then, fans have been clamoring for a reunion between Schon, the group's leader, and Perry. Last summer, Schon address the subject in an interview. “The door has always been open, like I’ve said a zillion times,” he said. “People ask me every day, ‘Are you reuniting?’ Steve says, ‘No,’ and I say, ‘You never know.'”

But now that Santana's classic lineup -- which includes Schon and Rolie -- have released their first album together in more than 40 years (IV, which is out today) and playing shows, the group's leader is hoping another San Francisco group from back in the day can pull it together again.

"It's 2016," Santana told Q104.3. "Like Neal says, time is short."
