He was one-fourth of one of the most innovative and popular bands in rock history -- can you recognize him from this "school days" photograph?

We'll give you a couple of quick clues. First off, even though he's playing a guitar in this photograph, that was not the instrument he played in his famous band. Second, he's one of very few rock stars to retire and stay retired, opting not to continue with the rest of his former bandmates after a member of the group tragically passed away.
