Twenty-time Grammy winner, Bruce Springsteen, has been named MusiCares Person Of The Year for 2013. He will be honored at a ceremony tied into the Grammy Awards next February.

The annual event, always a star-studded happening, will take place Feb. 8, 2013, two days prior to the 55th Annual Grammy Awards. Proceeds from the 23rd annual benefit gala dinner and concert will provide essential support for MusiCares, which ensures that music people have a place to turn in times of financial, medical and personal need.

“Bruce Springsteen is a truly gifted and Renaissance artist of our time, a national treasure, and an exemplary humanitarian,” said President/CEO of the MusiCares Foundation, Neil Portnow. “His career is a testament to the power of creative excellence, and his contributions as a philanthropist speak to the tenacity of the human spirit. We are privileged and honored to pay tribute to Bruce this year as our MusiCares Person of the Year.”

As with past recipients, MusiCares is honoring “the Boss” not only for his extraordinary creative accomplishments, but their significant charitable work. Springsteen has racked up an impressive range of philanthropic activities over the years along with his vast catalog of rock and roll. “Bruce is synonymous with artistic independence and a passion for causes that are close to his heart,” said Scott Pascucci, Chair of the MusiCares Foundation Board, “His career seamlessly combines inspiration and charity, and it’s a reminder that we can all do our part to make the world a better place.”

2013, by the way, will also mark the 40th anniversary of Bruce’s debut LP, ‘Greetings From Asbury Park.’ Bruce’s most recent offering, ‘Wrecking Ball,’ debuted at No. one upon its release this past March.
