Boz Scaggs to Release New Album, ‘A Fool to Care’

On March 31, Boz Scaggs will release ‘A Fool to Care.’ It will be his first album since 2013’s ‘Memphis,’ which cracked the Top 20.

Recorded in Nashville, the 12 songs on ‘A Fool to Care’ continue Scaggs’ fascination with the roots of American music that he’s explored since his days in the mid-‘60s as the vocalist with the Steve Miller Band. You can listen to the first single, ‘Last Tango on 16th Street,’ over at Rolling Stone. Scaggs calls the sparse, Latin-percussion tinged track a “a poignant portrait in a late night stroll through San Francisco's Mission District, the city's oldest neighborhood.” He adds that it’s “a picture of its rhythms, its contrasts and colors in high focus.”

‘A Fool to Care’ was recorded in four days with a core band comprised of veteran session pros Ray Parker, Jr. (guitar), Willie Weeks (bass), Jim Cox (keyboards) and Steve Jordan (drums), who also produced the record. In addition, Bonnie Raitt plays guitar and sings on ‘Hell to Pay’ and Lucinda Williams stops by for a duet on a cover of the Band’s ‘Whispering Pines.’
