Ultimate Classic Rock is pleased to have the exclusive premiere of a two-part video interview with Tom Scholz of Boston. The first segment, 'The Start of It,' can be viewed above.

The clip is part of the PBS/NOVA web series, 'The Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers,' which looks at scientists and engineers and their passions, inside and outside of the "lab." Previous guests have included Bill Nye, the Science Guy, astrophysicist Neil DeGrasse Tyson and actress Mayim Bialik ('The Big Bang Theory,' 'Blossom,') who has a Ph.D. in neuroscience.

In 'The Start of It,' Scholz discusses how he combined his lifelong love of science with his musical ability. He has rarely given on-camera interviews throughout his career, so to see him candidly reveal how he went from a child obsessed with boats and airplanes to chart-topping rocker with Boston is fascinating.

“Tom cares deeply about science and engineering," said executive producer Joshua Seftel. "And I think that’s why he opened up to us. It was amazing to hear him talk about his rise to fame and to hear him play his songs for us.”

UCR will premiere the second part of the interview, 'One in a Million,' on Thursday, May 22. The clip will feature Scholz talking about creating his famous Rockman amplifiers. You can follow 'The Secret Life of Scientists and Engineers' on Facebook and Twitter. Boston will be on tour all summer -- you can get all the dates right here.
