Bob Dylan is sharing a preview of one of the previously unreleased songs from the next installment of his Bootleg Series collection. You can listen to "Sitting on a Barbed Wire Fence" above.

The song was recorded on June 15, 1965, during the sessions for Highway 61 Revisited, and features Al Kooper on organ and Mike Bloomfield on lead guitar. This is the second of six attempts at the song. (Another take was released on Dylan's 1991 boxed set that began the opening of his vaults, The Bootleg Series Volumes 1–3 [Rare and Unreleased 1961–1991].) This newly unearthed version is a little more raw and less confident, and features a harmonica part found on the take issued in the 1991 collection.

Arriving on Nov. 6, The Cutting Edge 1965-1966: The Bootleg Series Vol. 12 chronicles the 14-month period in which Dylan released Bringing it All Back Home, Highway 61 Revisited and Blonde on Blonde, completing his transformation from topical folksinger to rock star.

The upcoming volume will be available in three configurations: a two-CD or three-LP set, a six-CD box that contains an entire disc devoted to all 16 takes of "Like a Rolling Stone" and a massive 18-CD, 379-track collection that contains "every single note" that Dylan recorded in a studio in those two years, as well as a 180-page book, nine mono 7" singles, a strip of film cells from the Don't Look Back documentary and a leopard-skin print spindle. Only 5,000 copies of the 18-CD set will be manufactured.

You can pre-order The Cutting Edge at Dylan's website.
