As we reported a couple of days ago, Black Sabbath has indeed been confirmed as one of the headliner's for this year's Lollapalooza festival in Chicago, Ill. The three-day event runs from Aug. 3 to 5; it has not been announced which night Sabbath will perform.

Also unknown is whether or not original drummer Bill Ward will join for what is expected to be the band's only 2012 U.S. performance. Ward was present at the Nov. 11 press conference announcing what was then expected to be a worldwide tour by the band's original lineup, but has since gone public to reveal he is unwilling to perform live or work on the band's new album unless he is offered a contract more to his liking.

Guitarist Tony Iommi, whose sudden battle with Lymphoma resulted in most of the band's 2012 plans being put on hold, is definitely expected to be there after reporting that he had completed his last dose of chemotherapy several weeks ago.

Black Sabbath join the Red Hot Chili Peppers, the Black Keys, Jack White and dozens of other bands on the Lollapalooza roster. You can read up on many more of these groups over at Diffuser.fm.
