What could be better than being out of school? How about the ladies you'll meet all summer? Such are the tough decisions to be made as Alice Cooper's "School's Out" squares off against Y&T's "Summertime Girls" in the first round of our Greatest Summer Song battle.

We’ve selected 32 of classic rock’s best summertime songs, and paired them off in 16 first-round duels. You determine the winner. Over the next five weeks the field will be repeatedly cut in half by your votes, until we arrive at the greatest summer song of all time.

"School's Out" was Alice Cooper's breakout single, becoming a No. 7 hit and a chart-topper in the U.K. Powered by a lyric that says goodbye to the academic year, but also to the institution itself (which has been blown up!), the ever-controversial "School's Out" sent Cooper's album of the same name to No. 2.

"Summertime Girls," meanwhile, originally appeared as an extra track on Y&T's 1985 live set Open Fire. Then, after it became their highest-ever charting single at No. 55, it was included as part of the band's next studio LP, Down for the Count. The song was later featured prominently in the Baywatch television show and in several movies.

You can vote once per hour in each of the 16 first-round Greatest Summer Song battles until voting closes on July 27 at 11:59PM ET. Your choice for the Greatest Summer Song of all time will be revealed on Aug. 25, 2015.
