It's been 20 years since Alex Lifeson released his solo Victor LP — long enough for the Rush guitarist to at least consider the possibility of putting together another project on his own.

The subject of a new solo album came up during Lifeson's recent interview with Guitar Connoisseur, and although he remained noncommittal about the idea, he did reveal he's sitting on a stockpile of material that's just waiting for the right record.

"What I enjoyed most about making that album was the variety of the material," Lifeson said of Victor. "It was a wonderful opportunity for me to explore and expand on certain genres of music that were not necessarily open to me within the context of Rush. The workload was relentless, and I seemed to be working on that album every day for a year, but it was enormously satisfying for me as a songwriter, producer, and musician. I don’t have the same drive to jump into a project like Victor at the moment, but I do have hours of material that does inspire me to at least consider such a thing."

All of which means that, as Lifeson said earlier this year, it'll likely be a while before we hear any new music from the various members of Rush, either together or apart. "I think we’re just in a stage now where we’re just kind of taking some time, reconnecting with our families and friends and pursuing some other interests, and having some fun, really," he explained. "I know Geddy [Lee] and I love writing together. We’ve been doing it since we were young teenagers. I’d like to think that we’ll do it until we’re very old men instead of just ‘mostly’ old men."
