Aerosmith’s Tom Hamilton Claims ’60 Minutes’ Reporter Used Her Cleavage to ‘Get the Band Nervous’
Aerosmith bassist Tom Hamilton has a pretty interesting explanation for how he and his bandmates wound up making statements that got singer Steven Tyler "pissed off" and responding with "demeaning" comments of his own during their recent '60 Minutes' interview: The reporter's cleavage made them nervous.
So don't feel bad if you get shy and tongue-tied around women. Apparently not even the members of one of the most famous rock bands in history, who have each probably seen more naked breasts than the world's longest-tenured Victoria's Secret employee, can stay calm and focused in the presence of the fairer sex unless she's wrapped head to toe like a nun.
As Hamilton tells 97.5 K-Rock, the band were caught off-guard when reporter Lara Logan turned up for their interview: "She had a very low-cut top on. I'm like, 'Okay, this is sort of, 'Get the band nervous with your cleavage and make them say stuff.' And if you go and watch the interview, you won't see that. So I'm like, 'Ahh, that's how they do it.' They show their boobs and get you to talk about stuff. And then, there you are. . . It works every time."
Perhaps more seriously, Hamilton points out that during those interviews, Logan and her co-workers got the band members to talk in depth about their intra-band conflicts, then presented Tyler with only the most incendiary statements: "They took comments that we made during very deep conversations, actually, that we had during the interview and sort of barraged Steven with them. I thought it was a little brutal the way they did it.
He's quick to assert that the band stands behind their words. "It was the truth. It was everybody speaking the way they were feeling." Despite watching the show with "trepidation and quite a rapid heart rate," Hamilton felt Tyler held up pretty well under conditions designed to provoke an angry reaction.
"The second that it was over, I texted him and I said, 'Hey, you did a great job.' 'Cause I thought he was put in a position where he had to defend himself, and I thought he did it well."
