The guys in Metallica have given the San Francisco Giants plenty of love over the years, and now their Bay Area sports neighbors the San Jose Sharks are getting in on the action.

Members of the band appeared at the team's game against the Los Angeles Kings on Jan. 21, dropping the ceremonial first puck as part of a promotion dubbed 'Metallica Night' that also found them posing for photos, taking over the team's Instagram feed and generally enjoying all manner of hockey-related shenanigans.

ABC News Radio reports that James Hetfield, Lars Ulrich and Robert Trujillo made it out for the game, appearing in specially designed jerseys and -- as you can see in the above video -- helping pump up the packed crowd.

Metallica songs were also piped out over the PA during stops in the action, which isn't all that far removed from what happens at a typical Sharks game; as ABC's report notes, the team traditionally takes the ice to the strains of the band's 'Seek and Destroy.' And while it's hard to say whether having the band in the arena had any impact on the game, it certainly didn't seem to hurt -- the Sharks beat the Kings, 4-2.
