Deep Purple Announce New Concert Film With Orchestra

Deep Purple's forthcoming 'Live in Verona' DVD finds the group working with strings again -- more than 45 years after their groundbreaking 'Concerto for Group and Orchestra' pushed the boundary between classical music and rock.

Available Oct. 21 via Eagle Rock, the new concert film features 'Concerto'-era members Ian Gillan, Roger Glover and Ian Paice joined by newer Purple additions Don Airey and Steve Morse, along with the Neue Philharmonie Frankfurt symphony orchestra.

This 2011 tour's set list was highlighted by Deep Purple favorites like 'Smoke on the Water,' 'Perfect Strangers,' 'Hush' (a holdover from 1969's 'Concerto for Group and Orchestra'), 'Highway Star' and 'Woman From Tokyo' -- all performed at the picturesque Arena di Verona, a Roman amphitheater that was originally built in 30 A.D.
