Chalk up another surprise for Neil Young, who quietly released his new solo covers album 'A Letter Home' yesterday.

The record, a vinyl exclusive release, is for sale via the Third Man website and features Young performing songs by the likes of Bruce Springsteen ('My Hometown'), Bob Dylan ('Girl From The North Country'), Willie Nelson ('On the Road Again' and 'Crazy') and the Everly Brothers' 'I Wonder If I Care' from inside a vintage '40s recording booth at White's Nashville studio.

This weekend could have been even bigger and more expensive for Neil Young fans. Today's Record Store Day was supposed to mark the release of his long-lost record 'Time Fades Away,' but those plans have been pushed back until later in the year.

The 1973 live document, which captures Young boldly confronting fans expecting mellow songs from his then-current smash hit album 'Harvest with loud electric material instead, has never been released on CD or digital formats despite fan petitions. Young is still not making it easy to pick up the record, however. 'Time Fades Away' will reportedly be exclusively included in a vinyl box set along with three other Young albums from the era -- 'On The Beach', 'Zuma' and 'Tonight's The Night'. The box set is reportedly limited to 3,500 units.
