Legendary producer and songwriter George 'Shadow' Morton passed away on Feb. 15. Morton was an important part of the mid-'60s Brill Building scene, as well as the staff producer for Red Bird Records. His work with 'tough chick' girl group the Shangri-Las helped birth hits like 'Leader of the Pack’ and ‘Remember (Walking In The Sand).'

He would also go on to produce such rockers as Vanilla Fudge and the New York Dolls. Morton was 72 years old.
