Nic Potter, bassist for Van Der Graaf Generator died of complications from pneumonia on Jan. 18 at 61 years old. Band leader Peter Hammill broke the news on his site: "The great Nic Mozart passed away last night. Deeply, deeply missed."

Though not a household name, Van Der Graaf Generator were a very important band in rock's progressive underground. Potter joined the group prior to the recording of their second album, though his initial time with them was a short stay, from 1969 through 1970. He recorded two classic albums, 'The Least We Can Do Is Wave To Each Other' and H to He, Who Am The Only One' before leaving the band. He rejoined the group in 1977 to play on two more of their albums.
