Joey Covington, drummer for both Hot Tuna and Jefferson Airplane, was killed in a car crash on June 4 at age 67. He was declared dead at the scene of the accident in Palm Springs. Covington joined Jefferson Airplane after the departure of original drummer Spencer Dryden in 1970. He was also an original member of Hot Tuna, the band he formed with fellow Airplane members Jack Casady and Jorma Kaukonen. He left the group in 1972 to pursue a solo career.
